What to say about me?  I’m the sum of all those to whom I’ve been exposed — hopefully refined by experience — but a collection of what life has offered and withdrawn.  Though born in the US, I was raised in Canada and boast proudly of my heritage to each…they inform who I am, what I am and how I determine value in this world.  I am a husband (is it really almost 20 years already?), a father, and cherish these roles above all others.  I’m fortunate to have living parents and a brother close by and an extended family whose loyalty is long and dependable.  I have a few friends, real friends, people who truly shape me and with whom I share strong bonds, but I differentiate those friends from the countless others that I know.  In their own ways, they’re all important, but those few…they are priceless and, hopefully, they know who they are!

I don’t know what to expect from this endeavor: writing, musing, looking for a path of personal expression.  It’s a journey into the unknown as it is for most I guess.  The inspiration for finally doing it takes many forms…not least of which is my wife whose tireless belief that I should do more, write more, say more, express more landed me here.  Her confidence far exceeds my own but I’m grateful for it.  There are others of course, friends and colleagues along my life’s journey, who have expressed their belief that there is something for me to say, a voice to be shared, a muscle to be exercised.  To all of them, thank you for giving me the courage to do something I couldn’t do on my own.  It will be my goal to reward your faith in me.

  1. I’m inspired by the honesty of this page and your first post. Best of luck in this adventure. I’m confident that this journey will exceed your wildest expectations. Your thoughts remind me of the following quote by Richard Rhodes:

“If you want to write, you can. Fear stops most people from writing, not lack of talent, whatever that is. Who am I? What right have I to speak? Who will listen to me if I do? You’re a human being, with a unique story to tell, and you have every right. If you speak with passion, many of us will listen. We need stories to live, all of us. We live by story. Yours enlarges the circle.”

May the wind be at your back Mike…
